Introduction
I was up at Weingartz today with my friend Brandon, and I shot this quick video answering probably the most popular question I receive. That is, what do I think is the best commercial lawn mower for under $5,000.
If you're jumping into the lawn care industry, the most expensive tool (usually) that you're going to invest in, is a quality lawn mower. Now there are dozens and dozens of mowers out there to pick from, no denying that. But if I was to do it all over again, I would hands down pick the Exmark Turf Tracer.
These walk behinds are a staple piece in any lawn care business's arsenal. Whether you're a solo/owner operator, or you intend to build a larger company, the 48/52/60" Turf Tracer will always have a use.
Hands down one of the best mowers on slopes, gated back yards, wide open fields, tiny yards and everything else you can imagine. Want to double the productivity? Throw down another $200-$300 on a sulky/velke/wheelie cart and you can up your ground speed from 3.5mph to 6-7 and tear it from the frame.
No, I don't get paid to endorse Exmark. No, I don't care if you buy a red machine, a yellow one, or an orange one. But, I do care if you guys are here to make money. And I do care if you're serious about throwing down a gob of money to make that first mower purchase. I remember like it was yesterday when I bought my first mower, so I don't take it for granted when you guys share the same anxious feeling about your first mower purchase.
You can't go wrong with one of these guys. Brand new they're about $7k. But a good used unit can go for about $3.5-$5K. So they're definitely in the budget of a new lawn care business owner, and rest assured, you'll have this puppy for a long time, which will pay you dividends for the length of your business.
What's your guys opinion on the best commercial lawn mower for a start up? What do you guys think about my pick on the Exmark Turf Tracer. Do you guys have a different unit/brand you suggest that is also a great start up mower? Let me know, leave me a comment down below!

Hey, what's up guys brian here brian is law, maintenance trust you guys are all doing well, they wanted to shoot a quick video for you guys talking about a topic that I think a lot of you guys are really gonna appreciate it, and that is my opinion.
Finally weighing in on what I think the best commercial mower is for the new guy getting started in the lawn care landscaping.
Business for under five grand and I'm gonna put a little asterisk here on this one, because you can buy these new for about seven grand, but a used one is gonna, go from anywhere from three to five grand.
A lot of you guys have asked me over the years.
What do I think is the best start up commercial lawn mower, and if I had the weigh in on it, it would be the x mark curve.
Tracer.
Let me show it to you guys, really quick, as you guys can see right here.
We've got the x mark turf, tracer now brand new.
This guy is seven G's, but, like I said you can get a lot of these use for about four to five thousand bucks.
Don't quote me on the horsepower? It's usually like anywhere like 14, to 18, something like that, but these kind of lawn mowers have just so much room in your fleet as your company grows, but initially starting out.
It's awesome to have these because you can use them on gated backyards in wide open field.
Now, as you guys can imagine, a walk behind is always going to have room in your fleet as your business grows.
So maybe you want to start with a walk behind and then you can add a zero-turn to it later on you're still going to use this walk behind for a long length of time with your lawn landscape business.
Now again, these come in different varieties, deck sizes and lengths 48 inches.
Some of them even go up to 60.
If I'm not mistaken, now, I'm very familiar with these, because my first one more was an x mark viking that was a 48 inch walk behind with a fixed deck.
As you guys see, you have the floating deck here, which is going to contour the lawn and the grass, as you guys mow, and give you that nice carpet cut, look a fixed deck, doesn't really contour the hills of the yard or the you know, grass that you're mowing, so you don't always get the nicest cut with that fixed deck, but nonetheless, still great mower by 48 inch walk-behind viking, that was five grand brand new.
You got your parking brake here, probably about a three to five gallon gas tank ECS controls, which I like these a lot more than the pistol grip style.
You get your throttle.
Your PTO, as you guys, can see, got the hydros with the pumps, and this is going to be your ground speed, which is very cool.
Next I have an outro meter built into these now, which is very cool, and this is your choke.
Get your hydro oil filters at your muffler, very, very simple stuff.
Now getting access to the deck and pulleys you just pull these little pins and you can get inside the lawnmower, which is really cool, change.
Your belts out now again, a lot of you guys, have always asked me what is my favorite lawnmower when it comes to the new guy getting started for under 5 grand or less I'm? Definitely, gonna go with the X mark, turf, tracer.
These mowers they're just built to last.
You can always find them.
You can always find parts for them.
So if you guys are getting started in the business, one thing I'd always encourage.
You guys is don't cheap out on your lawnmower.
It is going to be your bread and butter.
It is going to be the thing that makes you the most amount of money, so you guys want to make sure you're buying the best quality lawn mower.
You can get at the time you're getting started.
So that way, you don't have to worry about other headaches along the way for about 5 grand I.
Think the X mark curve tracer fits that bill.
Now again, that's just with X mark I'm, not too familiar with all the other brands.
Nonetheless, so I'd love to know your guys's thoughts.
What you guys think is the best commercial lawn mower to get started that you can grow into for the new guys.
Leave me a comment down below I'd love to hear you guys, thoughts for surebut, guys, for you know, 5 grand or so maybe even a little less.
If you buy a used one with five hundred to a thousand dollars on it, you can get these for 4 grand a 48 to 60 inch cutting deck, and this thing is going to always have room in your fleet.
Now one thing you guys can utilize to make these things even more productive, as most of you guys know is you can add a sulky valkia, wheelie, cart, whatever you guys want to call them and that can pretty much double the productivity of one of these machines.
Now we'll be careful if you pick one up, because they do take a little bit of time to get used to, but nonetheless they are super effective and efficient.
At making these things that much more productive, all you're going to do is either welded or bolted to the back guard.
Here the back part of the frame I did it on my own.
It didn't take more than a half hour to install it when I had my old walk-behind, but nonetheless very very cool lot more and, in my opinion, one of the best ones to get started with hi guys hopefully enjoyed this quick video on the X mark drift, racer I know a lot of you guys were asking, what's my opinion on the best commercial lot more for guys to get started with that's about 5, grand or less I have to go with the X mark turf tracer so hopefully enjoyed this quick video I'd love to hear you guys, thoughts with all the other brands out there.
You guys prefer stand ons or zero turns or the walk-behind.
What do you guys think is the best value out there right now for the newest guy getting started in the business with five grand or less to spend.
Leave me a comment down below love to hear you guys thoughts, but all that being said hopefully guys enjoyed this video I met weingartz my dealer of choice, so I super appreciate them letting me film.
This video really quick.
If you guys enjoyed this video, don't forget to smash the like button.
I super appreciate that and if you guys are new, don't forget to subscribe.
